I always enjoy irises - such pretty flowers.

Around Innovation Place

One advantage of being back working in the office is that I get to enjoy the surroundings.

jackrabbit

This was a smaller Jackrabbit. I'll have to watch out for the distinctive notch out of the left ear. (Maybe from frostbite?) I wonder sometimes how they find enough to eat in the winter. Bark and twigs hardly seem to have enough calories to stay warm in Saskatchewan winters. Of course, there's no shortage of greenery to eat this time of the year.

It's nice to see all the flowers. I always like the irises.

The bees always like the cornflowers.

There are damselflies and dragonflies around the pond. I watched one dragonfly flying around dipping into the water, presumably laying eggs? I think these little damselflies are Taiga Bluets.

Fishing Spider

I was happy to see my first fishing spider of the season at the Innovation Place pond. I've been looking for them for a while but haven't spotted any. When I looked this morning I noticed this one almost right away. And I managed not to frighten it and send it diving underwater. The trick is to move slowly.

I've been carrying my "big' camera back and forth to work, but I hadn't used it lately, so today I switched back to carrying my little one. Of course, then I spot something to photograph. But the little ZS100 does a pretty good job.

It's nice to stop at the pond early, on my way into work. Later in the day it tends to turn into a playground with all the families and kids. No peaceful lunches by the pond these days.

Pelicans

For some reason I didn't end up taking as many pelican photos this spring. I did catch these two guys (males have a "horn" during breeding season) on a walk along the river. I always enjoy seeing them. They seem more regal than the brown pelicans that are common other places.

Duplex

Downy Woodpecker

This Downy Woodpecker couldn't seem to make up his mind where to make his nest hole. There was a third half built hole nearby.  I wonder if they're looking for a hollow trunk? But these two holes seem too close together to expect any different results.
