I protected the two that I came across from the passing bicycles, but I found another one that had already been run over. Sad, but not surprising since they blend in quite well and they move quite slowly. They may even have been pausing to sun themselves on the trail, like snakes or lizards would, although that's not normal for tiger salamanders since the adults tend to stay under cover and are seldom seen.
It was nice to see them and know they're still around. As people (and their dogs) increase along the riverbank, the wildlife is gradually disappearing. I see less garter snakes every year. I used to see foxes regularly but haven't for the last few years. I guess it's to be expected as the city grows. (Personally, I'd rather have the wildlife than the growth.)
The articulated screen on the G12 is handy for getting a low angle without having to lie on the ground.
